David L. Walker, of 1903 W. Second, retired assistant manager of the Ulry-Talbert Company in Grand Island, died Tuesday in the Veteran's Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Dr. John Shell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 21, 1895, at Hastings, the son of George and Margaret Sitzman Walker. He moved with his parents to Grand Island in 1901, where he received his education. Mr. Walker entered the army services on May 8, 1917, at Omaha and served during World War I with the Navy. He received his discharge from the Great Lakes Naval Station on Aug. 16, 1919. For 35 years, he was associated with the Ulry-Talbert Company in Grand Island. At the time of his retirement in 1951 he was serving as assistant manager. On July 6, 1924, he was married to Miss Lucy Soehl at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They had made their home in Grand Island since that time. Mr. Walker was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Island, where he served as an elder and Sunday School superintendent. He also was affiliated with World War I Barracks 1260 and American Legion Post No. 53. He had served as chaplain and representative of the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Warren (Elaine) Morrow of Lincoln and Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Goldbach of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. George Weyand of Citrus Heights, Calif. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers.
