Elizabeth, beloved wife of Mathias Schmitt, died of liver complaint Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Regina Mayer of South Sixth street. Mrs. Schmitt was born in Germany on January 7, 1837, and had resided in Duquesne about one year, coming to this place from Bridgeville. She was a member of St. Joseph’s German Catholic church and an estimable lady. She is survived by her husband, one daughter and two sons, the latter being John Schmitt of Bridgeville and N. S. Schmitt of Mt. Oliver. (Duquesne Observer, Friday, Dec 7, 1900, p 3)
