The young man was well known here and in Carbondale where he lived for several years. He was born February 15, 1904, at Union Hill. New Jersey. Later the family moved lo East Orange, New Jersey, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from the Rolla School of Mines at Rolla, Mo., and was a member of Alpha Lamba Tau and Beta Tau fraternities.
He was married February 4, 1933, to Clara Blanche Berger, daughter of the late John Berger, Sr. and Mrs. Berger of this city.
Besides the wife, he is survived by an only son, John Henry (Jack) Diers, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Diers of near Carbondale and brother, Henry Diers, highway engineer in Carbondale. Another brother, George Diers, died several months ago.
Mr. Diers was employed in Pennsylvania before coming to Carbondale to accept a position as engineer in the Illinois State Highway department. A few years ago, he resigned this position to accept a position as assistant plant engineer for the Laclede Steel company in Alton.
He was a highly respected and industrious young man and well liked among a wide circle of friends in Murphysboro, Carbondale, and Alton.
Services will be conducted at the First Lutheran church here.
