Ralph Wenger Ziegler, 85, a resident of 9638 Mount Zion Road, Linville, died Sept. 26, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days.

Mr. Ziegler was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Columbiana, Ohio, and was the son of the late William A. and Mattie Wenger Ziegler.

He had lived in the Singers Glen area for the past 40 years. He was a pastor, serving most recently in the Northern District of the Virginia Mennonite Conference. He was a church planter for the First Mennonite Church in Richmond. Mr. Ziegler also owned and operated Ziegler Burner Service, worked as a brick mason, a mechanic and an orchardist. He enjoyed rose gardening and raised many beautiful roses. He is remembered by his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a student of the Bible who studied diligently until the end of his life. He was a member of the Lindale Mennonite Church .

On Jan. 22, 1940, he married Osie Ola Herztler, who survives.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Wesley Ziegler of Akron, Pa., Ralph Gordon Ziegler of Mount Joy, Pa.; one daughter, Audrey Joyce Guardacosta of Harrisonburg; one sister, Lois Fisher of Harrisonburg; one brother, Kenneth Ziegler of Newport News; eight grandchildren, Brian Ziegler of Clinton, Tenn., Christopher Thompson of Harrisonburg, Abigail Myers of Harrisonburg, Lara Ziegler of Dearborn, Mich., Griff Owen of Harrisonburg, Isaac Ziegler, Reuben Ziegler and Jacob Ziegler, all of Mount Joy, Pa.; a stepgranddaughter, Annie Guardacosta of Chicago; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Myers of Harrisonburg.

Mr. Ziegler was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Ziegler and Mildred Louise Owen, and a sister, Esther Fisher.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Park View Mennonite Church with Pastors Loren Horst, Howard Miller, Tom Buckingham and Paul T. Yoder officiating. Burial will follow at Lindale Mennonite Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
