TIKI ISLAND: Bert Alfred Blume, II 65 departed this world on Friday, October 5, 2012 at his residence and will now be at peace in his new home in heaven. Born on Galveston Island December 17, 1946 he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Blume; brothers, Walter and Ray Blume; parents, Walter and Lilly Blume; father-in-law, Tim Harrison.
Bert leaves behind his loving wife, Debra Daye Blume; devoted sons, Trey and Cody Blume; adoring sister, Lorna Blume Richardson. He also leaves behind nieces, Josey Blume, Elika Carlsen, Jessica Kielian and Jennifer Cobb; nephews, Walter Blume, Zane VanHouten and Ben Harrison.
Bert was a graduate of Ball High School in Galveston . He worked successfully in the Banking business for numerous years until setting about on a new journey in the Beauty Industry. He started an Armstrong McCall Franchise with his wife Daye and worked very hard to make it successful.
Bert had a great love for the ocean and was an avid offshore fisherman and caught fish with cunning skill and ease. His free dive spear fishing was unmatched in Galveston reaching a depth of over 50 feet in a single breath. He was also a member of the Houston Big Game Fishing Club.
He also loved racquetball and was very well known for his talents at the Racquet Club in Galveston . He found a love for Rugby throughout his journey in life and played regularly for many years.
He was an extremely generous man with a huge heart and a great love for kids and people in general. For those that knew him they would tell you he would literally give them the shirt off of his back if they needed it.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Galveston, 822-23rd Street. Simply your thoughts and presence are enough but if you were considering flowers we ask instead that you send donations to MD Anderson Prostate Research in the name of Bert Blume care of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont Street , Galveston , Texas 77550
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. John Araujo of MD Anderson Cancer Center and Sharon Cannedy, RN of Peaceful Tranquility Hospice for all of their personal care given to Bert during his illness.
