HARRY E. KIRK DIES; FUNERAL AT DOUGLAS
Assistant Superintendent of Cananea Mines Succumbs to Long Illness
Cananea, Mexico, July 31, 1912 Harry E. Kirk passed away at the hospital of the Cananea Consolidated Copper company this morning at 7:30 a.m. after a lingering illness extending from the first of March. The demise of Mr. Kirk was not totally unexpected, as his life had been despaired of for the past few days, and everything known to medical science was done to save his life, but without avail. His death was a great blow to his prostrated wife, and a shock to the many friends in Cananea and abroad. Mr. Kirk never lost his natural cheerful disposition during the long months of patient suffering and helplessness. On July 20, he submitted to an operation for appendicitis, which was successful. Other complications, however, soon arose, due to his general condition, caused by the stubborn malady which first caused him to take to his bed on March 4 of this year, the direct cause of death was myocarditis, or inflammation of muscles of the heart. Harry E. Kirk was born on December 30, 1863, in Cecil county, Maryland, and was next to the youngest of eleven children, eight boys and three girls. He left the family farm when he reached age twenty-one, and went to California, later coming to Mexico, where he has been for twenty-six years. In 1900 he came to Cananea, and has made this place his home since. During the time he lived here he was in the employ of the Cananea company in the capacity of assistant superintendent of mines, almost incessantly. Besides his widow, he leaves two brothers, residing in Cananea, James H. Kirk, superintendent of mines for the company, and Walter Kirk, also connected with the company. On Friday noon the remains will be taken to Douglas, Arizona, for interment, on the evening of that day.
