Mrs. Gerrit Engelbreth [Engelbrecht], residing about five miles south-east of Alton, was taken very ill Thursday evening at six o’clock and died in about an hour, before medical assistance could be secured. It is supposed she died of paralysis. She was a good woman and many mourn her sad death. - Alton Democrat, Saturday, May 3, 1890, page 5, column 2
