LEWIS BUD WADE SR, 94, died in Jackson, Mississippi on December 5, 2005. Mr. Wade was born in Ardmore on the Fourth of July, 1911. His parents, Lee Wade and Effie Wamshire Wade, were officers of the Salvation Army. He grew up in Cushing, and earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Oklahoma A&M. Bud was an outstanding varsity basketball player at A&M. He was the leading scorer in the Missouri Valley Conference in his senior season.
He married Doris Heideman of Cushing in 1929. Through the years they were blessed with two children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
After several years coaching and teaching in Glencoe, Kaw City, and Webb City, Oklahoma schools, Bud joined Gulf Oil Corporation in 1942. He was a business administrator and worked in Gulf's Tulsa and Oklahoma City headquarters as well as several offices in Kansas and Indiana. In the early Sixties he was transferred to Jackson and retired there in 1972. After his retirement, Bud became an accomplished golfer and served the game as an officer of the Mississippi Senior Golf Association with responsibility for statewide tournament administration. He was a longtime member of Briarwood United Methodist Church in Jackson. His beloved Doris died and was laid to rest at Ames Cemetery in 1996. Bud married Peggy Dehmer of Jackson in the spring of 2000. His extended family will be forever grateful to Peggy and her daughters Cindy Peoples and Pam Smith for the happiness, love, and care they gave him during his sunset years. Bud is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Doris; his brothers, Leroy and Henry; his sister Leola Phillips; and his grandson John Rex Rundle. Surviving are: his widow Peggy (Dehmer) Wade; his daughter and son-in-law Dick & Joan Rundle, Dallas; his son Lew Wade, Tulsa; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and seven stepchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Jim Nance at Ames Baptist Church in Ames, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2005. A graveside ceremony will follow at Ames Cemetery. Friends are cordially invited to join the family for lunch at the church at 12:45 p.m.
