  German born Henry Christion Carl Garrels immigrated to the United States in 1881. The son of Carl J B and Regina M Garrels who immigrated to the United States, listed on a New York passenger list with their children, Hienrich (5), Charlotte (3) and Ernest (1). They arrived in New York on November 7, 1881 on the US General Werder, their port of embarkment was Bremen.

 In 1900 Henry was 25 years old and still living with his parents in Middletown, Jackson County, MN. He now has five additional siblings, but two siblings are now deceased, which are Charlotte (Lottie) and another. He occupation is day laborer

 In 1910 Henry is the head of household in their Dexter, Wood County, WI home. His occupation is farmer and his father is listed as a farm laborer, as is Ernest and Carl. Also living in the home is his niece Ella Regina Koeppen, born in Middletown, Jackson MN, the daughter of his sister Charlotte and her husband Fred C Koeppen.

 On September 12, 1918 he registered for the WWI Draft. He states he is 43 years old and that occupation is farming. He shows that he is a naturalized citizen. He is noted as being tall, of medium build, with grey eyes and blonde hair. is nearest relative is listed as his wife, Agda Garrels, to whom he has just been married. She is 33 years old and this is the first marriage for each of them.

 Henry was naturalized in 1900 and Agda, who immigrated to the US in 1890 fron Sweden was naturalized in 1915. In 1920 they own their Dexter home, but it has a mortgage. They have no children and he is still farming.

 Their first child, Heldine Agda was born in 1921 and their only other child, Rueben, was born 4 years later in 1925. By 1930 they lived in Fairfield, Sauk County, Wisconsin. Neither of their children ever married or had children, hence this lineage ends with Rueben.
