Mar. 8, 1911 ~ Feb. 27, 2011
Johanna was one-of-a-kind! She felt, "If there's a will, there's a way," and lived it. Like the song, she did it her way. She was always full of fun, life, creativity and a strong will.
Born of Swiss immigrants, Josef and Emma Funk Koller, in Hillsdale, she grew up in Deer Island with her sister Emma and brothers, Joe and Hans.
In 1931, she married WILLY HEUSSER of Zurich, Switzerland, and they had two children, Willy Jr. and Dolores. After a divorce she married LOUIS STUDER; they also divorced.
Johanna always loved animals, people, gatherings, dancing, growing flowers, plants, everything Swiss and traveling the West Coast in her big white van and trailer. She especially loved Swiss music and began importing Swiss records in the '40s, eventually importing carvings, bells, calendars, postcards, pictures, and pipes. For many years she went to Swiss festivals from Washington to Southern California, making many friends and lending her support to all the Swiss clubs on the West Coast.
Johanna was a lifelong resident of Oregon and just missed her 100th birthday. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her son, Willy Heusser Jr. and his wife, Darlene of Agoura Hills, Calif.; daughter, Dolores Myers of Portland; grandchildren, Robert, Richard, Ronald and Susan Myers, and Billy, Marc and Martin Heusser; and great-grandchildren, Sophie, Silas, Sawyer, Ingrid, Emma, Helen, Renee, and Derek.
A celebration of her life will be held at noon Saturday, March 26, 2011, in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, 5441 S.E. Belmont St. Donations may be made to Portland Swiss, Inc.
