RIEK – James I. “Duff,” 88, Brownstown, died May 16, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 2, 1922, in Johnstown, son of Ignatius and Magdalene (Green) Riek. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Ann (Gawlas) Riek; and siblings, Marie Jordan, Agnes Krise, Fredrick Riek, Irene Steinkirschner, Charles Riek, Edward Riek, Albert Riek, Joseph Riek, Magdalene Hahn, Michael Riek, Mildred LaPorte and Bertha Grimaldi. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. Survived by children, James S., married to the former Kay Lint, Johnstown; Rodney G., married to the former Barbara Hancock, Delafield, Wis.; Annette, married to Dennis Noll, Johnstown; Marisa, married to Thomas Williams, Johnstown; Gretchen, married to Harold Knupp, Somerset; and Lance, married to the former Christine Raymond, Bozeman, Mont. Also survived by grandchildren, Chris, and wife, Heather; Jason, and wife, Kim; Amy, and husband, Brad; Kristin, and husband, Dan; Jess, and husband, Randy; Heather, and fiance, Rishi; Tommy; Kathryn; Tom; Jason, and wife, Lisa; Jennifer, and husband, Chris; Elliott; Johnny; Anna; and Maria; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Nathan, Olivia, Reese, Lucy, Jeremy, Abigail, Serenity and Alexis; and numerous nieces and nephews. A U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II with the 13th Armored Division and the 101st Infantry. Owner and proprietor of Riek Brothers Beer Distributors from 1946 to 2007, and J.C. Supply Co., Redi-Mix Concrete Business. Member of Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, VFW Post 155, American Legion, former CWV, Brownstown Golf Association and Brownstown Volunteer Fire Company. James received the Distinguished Service Award of the longest serving school director in Pennsylvania history for more than 40 years of service. He also was a board treasurer for many years for Ferndale School District. He was very active in his community. Former star halfback for Westmont-Upper Yoder High School. An avid outdoorsman, football fan and golfer. Lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Brownstown, where funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, the Franciscan Friars OFM Conv. Committal, Grandview Mausoleum, where VFW Post 155 will hold military honors. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Brownstown.
