Edward Derks, 68, lifelong resident of Stanberry and father of Herbert Derks of King City, died Wednesday morning at Sisters hospital, St. Joseph. He was taken to the hospital Monday night for emergency surgery. Mr. Derks was born at Clyde, Missouri. He was a cattle buyer and for several years operated the hog buying yard in Stanberry. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a third degree Knight of Columbus. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm Sunday at the Johnson mortuary in Stanberry. Funeral services will be at 10 am Monday at St. Peter's church with the Rev. Roger H. Blais officiating. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Madonna Whitt of El Dorado, Kansas, Mrs. Kathleen Donovan of Stanberry, Mrs. Mary Joan Dannevik of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Theresa Moore of Sedalia and Mrs. Carol Stoll of Stanberry; three sons, Edward E. Derks of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Robert Derks of Platt City and Herbert Derks of King City; three brothers, Lucian Derks of Guilford, Theodore Derks of Stanberry and Leo Derks of Norton, Kansas; and thirty-five grandchildren.
