He was the son of Andrew and Alma (Bertke) Niekamp. He married twice and survived both wives. On Oct 5, 1946, he married Dorothy Rutkowski, and on Apr 13, 2002, he married Betty (Dzikoski) Zakrzewski.
Surviving are nine sons: Mike (Barb), Paul Jr. (Judy) and Joe (Cheryl), all St. Henry, Pat (Mary), Ft. Recovery, Ron (Doris), Findlay, Bob (Ginny)and Jack (Becky), both Stevens Point, WI, Tom (Janice), Centerville, and Tim (Debbie), Palmer, AK; two brothers: Tom (Mary) and Jim (Margie), both St. Henry; two sisters: Phyliss (Joe) Miller, Battle Creek, MI, and Kathy (Jerry) Pulskamp, New Bremen; a sister-in-law, Janet Niekamp-Bolton, Centerville; and thirty-eight grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two grandchildren; two brothers: Les (Beverly) and Andrew; and two sisters: Ethel (Elmer) Rinderle and Joan (Maurice) Rammel.
He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, the church choir, St. Henry Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the St. Henry American Legion. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was Village Clerk for St. Henry and retired from sales at the former Mercer Beverage, St. Henry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry, with Rev. Benedict Magabe officiating.
