ATHENS, LA: Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Bridges Shaffer of Route 1, Athens, La. will be held at 2 p.m. January 16, 1991 at Rose-Neath Chapel in Arcadia, La. Burial will be in Mt. Mariah Cemetery.
Mrs. Shaffer died January 14, 1991 at Highland Hospital after a brief illness. She was 87. The daughter of Neri and Ridonia James Bridges, Mrs. Shaffer was born November 10, 1903. She lived her entire life in the Mt. Mariah community. She was a member of the Mt. Mariah Methodist Church.
Mrs. Shaffer was the widow of George Henry Shaffer who died in 1968. Also, she was preceded in death by a son, James Travis Shaffer and an infant son, David Henry Shaffer.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Teutsch and husband John of Shreveport, La., Mrs. Donia Beth Groff and husband Jack of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Dottie Cathey and husband Al of Athens, La.; one sister, Annie Mae Nelson of Arcadia, La.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Officiating at the services will be the Reverend Larry Joyner, pastor of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, assisted by the Reverend Doug deGraffenreid, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Ardadia and the Mt. Mariah Church.
Pallbearers will be Elmer Nelson, Drew Bridges, Lurie Jordan, Alvin Jordan, Raymond Jordan, and Ardis Powell Jr.
