Maria Elena Manrique, 57, peacefully passed away at her home in Mount Vernon on December 1st, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born November 6th, 1955 in Harlingen, Texas, to parents Polo and Eva Aguilar, the second of ten siblings. She later moved to Skagit County at the age of six with her large family. Maria graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1974.

Upon graduation she worked as a Headstart teach for 13 years, ending her career as a Domestic Violence Advocate before becoming ill. Maria loved the camping, watching baseball games, and long road trip. What she enjoyed most was spending time with family and her 14 grandkids.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Ofelia Polanco (Antonio), Christy Valdes, and two sons, Eugene Manrique (Meghan) and Mario "Weazel" Manrique (Jennifer). She also is survived by many sisters and brothers, as well as 14 grandkids and one great-grandson.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Eva Aguilar, and her grandparents, Emilio andCarmen Zavala.

Maria will be greatly missed by all her friends and family that she entrusted throughout her life.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 2 pm at Kern Funeral Home. A public view will be held from 12 Noon to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 and Thursday morning prior to service.
