Richard owned his own company, which lead him to contract work around the Atlanta area. However, the night of 9/11/2003 he would go to work to never return home to his little girl, who just turned 2 the month before.
Richard was 35 years old at the time of his death and a resident of Canton, GA. While Richard and his fellow employees were digging a trench, the soil around the project gave way around midnight that day, leaving Richard trapped in a 5ft. deep hole. There were several attempts to rescue Richard, but they failed.
Services for Richard were held on September 14, 2003 in the town of his birth. Survivors include one daughter, Gabrielle Martina Turem of Canton, Georgia; 2 brothers, Barry Turem and his wife Jennifer of Acworth, Georgia, Adam Turem of Decatur, Georgia; mother, Gwyn Harriet Gordon of Decatur, Georgia; father, Alan Turem of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grandparents. Mary Turem of Atlanta, Georgia, Hyman and Selma Gordon of Anniston, Alabama; one niece, Audrey Turem of Acworth, Georgia.
