Mary was born on September 29, 1917, to Herman and Maria (nee Abeling) Willenborg in Beverbruch, Oldenburg, Germany. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1928, and they made their home in the Annaheim district.

Predeceased by her husband, John Timmermann (June 16, 1993); son, Leo Timmermann; parents, Herman and Maria (nee Abeling) Willenborg; step-father, John Kleefeld; three brothers and four sisters: Joe (Elizabeth) Willenborg, Elizabeth (Louis) Bley, Johanna (Nienaber) Ortman, Sepha (Joe) Holtvogt, Paula (Ben) Vogelsang, Gus (Bernice) Willenborg, and Frank Kleefeld; and by many in-laws of the Timmermann family.
