Wells W. Mole Jr., 68, of Grafton, founder and former president of the Mole Agency, Inc., an insurance agency in Grafton, died Friday in his home after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Grafton.
He graduated from Grafton High School in 1942 and attended Baldwin-Wallace College.
Mr. Mole was elected president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Lorain County in 1958 and previously served as a trustee and vice-president. He was also past president of the Ohio Agents Association of Ohio Farmers Insurance Group.
He was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Grafton, past president of its Holy Name Society and was named the society's "Man of the Year" in 1971.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, served on a landing ship tank in the Pacific Theater for three years and was a life member of Hinkson-Hysell VFW Post 3341 in Grafton.
In 1946, he began his insurance career with the Kenneth Johnson Insurance Agency in Elyria. A year later, he bought the Delbert Dunlap Insurance Agency in Grafton, while at the same time, his late father, Wells W. Mole Sr., earned his real estate license and began a real estate business in Grafton.
Both ran businesses in Grafton until 1971 when the elder Mole retired and the younger Mole acquired the real estate business. He ran both the agency and the real estate business until his retirement in 1979.
The younger Mole was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He owned and operated the Bamrick Marsh fishing and hunting club in Grafton Township for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Irene, a son, Richard of Andover, Ohio; daughters, Beth M. of Grafton and Ann M. Sakach of Lorain; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Blackburn Funeral Home, 1028 Main St., Grafton, where the Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Grafton, with the Rev. Robert R. Vieweg, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Grafton, where VFW Post 1079 of Elyria will conduct graveside services.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Lorain County or the American Heart Association.

Wells W. Mole Jr., 68, of Grafton, founder and former president of the Mole Agency, Inc., an insurance agency in Grafton, died Friday in his home after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Grafton.
He graduated from Grafton High School in 1942 and attended Baldwin-Wallace College.
Mr. Mole was elected president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Lorain County in 1958 and previously served as a trustee and vice-president. He was also past president of the Ohio Agents Association of Ohio Farmers Insurance Group.
He was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Grafton, past president of its Holy Name Society and was named the society's "Man of the Year" in 1971.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, served on a landing ship tank in the Pacific Theater for three years and was a life member of Hinkson-Hysell VFW Post 3341 in Grafton.
In 1946, he began his insurance career with the Kenneth Johnson Insurance Agency in Elyria. A year later, he bought the Delbert Dunlap Insurance Agency in Grafton, while at the same time, his late father, Wells W. Mole Sr., earned his real estate license and began a real estate business in Grafton.
Both ran businesses in Grafton until 1971 when the elder Mole retired and the younger Mole acquired the real estate business. He ran both the agency and the real estate business until his retirement in 1979.
The younger Mole was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He owned and operated the Bamrick Marsh fishing and hunting club in Grafton Township for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Irene, a son, Richard of Andover, Ohio; daughters, Beth M. of Grafton and Ann M. Sakach of Lorain; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Blackburn Funeral Home, 1028 Main St., Grafton, where the Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Grafton, with the Rev. Robert R. Vieweg, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Grafton, where VFW Post 1079 of Elyria will conduct graveside services.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Lorain County or the American Heart Association.
