Succumbed Sunday Afternoon Following Illness of About A Year
Adolph August Ziemke, prominent citizen of the Janesville vicinity, passed away at his home on Sunday afternoon at 2:30, September 26, following an illness of about a year, Death was due to complications incident to his advanced years.
Adolph Ziemke was born October 18, 1858 in Germany and was 79 years of age at the time of his death. When he was eight years old, he accompanied his parents to America and settled on a farm near Janesville. He had followed the occupation of farming until twenty-five years ago when he retired. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church at Smiths Mill for the past 24 years.
The deceased was married to Otillia Grams of Janesville on December 24, 1882. To this union six children were born, three of whom died in the early years of their life. Mr. Ziemke is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Ed. Hoffman of Kasson; two sons, Edward Ziemke and Louis Ziemke of Janesville; ten grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Julia Schnoor of Smiths Mill.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, September 29, at one-thirty from the home and at two o'clock from the Evangelical Lutheran church at Smiths Mill, with Rev. O. K. Netzke officiating. Interment was made in the Elysian cemetery. The pallbearers were, August Berendt, Chas. Marx, Henry Storjohann, Otto Miller, Frank Riese and Gottlieb Youngerberg.
