GRAETTINGER, Iowa - Services for Delores J. Ulrich, 79, of Graettinger, Iowa, will be 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Emmetsburg, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Ringsted, Iowa.


Delores June (Ludwig) Ulrich the daughter of Leo and Mary (Kober) Ludwig was born June 24, 1933. She died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 79.

She received her education at West Bend, Iowa, schools, graduating in 1950.

On Oct. 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to Walter LaVerne Ulrich at Delores' parent's home near West Bend. Following their marriage, the couple lived near West Bend until December 1958, when they moved to Graettinger, Iowa. Delores raised her family and helped Walter with the farming. For hobbies, she enjoyed cooking, canning, playing cards, and antiques. She loved watching game shows and sports and would never miss the chance to tell her kids or grandchildren that she was a member of the 1947 West Bend girls state basketball team. Most important to her was spending time with her family.

Delores was active in the United Methodist Women, Happy Birthday Club and the Women's Circle.

Left to cherish Delores memory are her husband, Walter of Graettinger; children, Jerry (Donna) Ulrich of Armstrong, Iowa; Jewell (Alan) Polzin of Laramie, Wyoming; Jeff (Mary Kay) Ulrich of Armstrong; Jon (Jodi) Ulrich of Apple Valley, Minn.; Jan (Paul) Ehmen of Cylinder, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Wayne (Elaine) Ludwig of Churchville, Md.; Donald (Judy) Ludwig of Algona, Iowa, and Sandy (Bill) Devereaux of Pocahontas, Iowa.

She has been preceded in death by her parents; son, Joe Ulrich; grandson, Scott Polzin; granddaughter, Amy Ulrich; siblings, MaDeen; Kate; Leo Jr.; Carl; Merle; Joe; John; Phyllis and other relatives.
