Services were held for Robert Slager, 58, route 1, Swisher, at Saturday, July 22, at the George L. Gay funeral home, Iowa City. The Rev. J.M. Steffenson, Methodist church, Marion, officiated. Slager died Tuesday, July 18, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

Burial was in Memory Gardens cemetery, Iowa City. Pallbearers were: Cyrus Cacloppo and Austin Fairlie, Swisher; Don Heisler, Cedar Rapids; Virgil Schmidt, Walter Heitshusen and Dale Welsh, Williamsburg.

Born in Iowa County on a farm near Williamsburg, July 14, 1920, he was the son of William and Anna Klever Slager. He received his education in the Williamsburg schools.

He married Elesa Doehrmann, June 20, 1948, and they farmed southwest of Williamsburg until 1968, when they moved to Swisher. He was employed as a machinist and blacksmith at Cherry-Burrell, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, a son, Dennis, Marion; two daughters, Sharon, Munich, West Germany; and Donna, Lisle, Ill; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Truman Slager, July 1977.
