Margie Schmitz, 73, of Kearney, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Mount Carmel Keen Memorial Home in Kearney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Colling officiating. Visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Friday at the church with a vigil prayer service starting at 5:00 P.M. Burial will be at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Oconto, NE. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Margie Ann Schmitz was born October 8, 1939 in Milford, Kansas to Arnold and Susanna (Gould) Dobbins. She grew up on a ranch near Anselmo and received her education from Anselmo High School graduating in 1958. On November 14, 1964, Margie was united into marriage with Francis J. Schmitz. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Margie enjoyed traveling, going to museums and antiques. Survivors include her sons, Joseph Schmitz of Kearney, Franklin Schmitz and wife, Sunny of Kearney; daughters, Ann Schmitz of Kearney, Sheila Piscopo and husband, Michael of Green Bay, WI; 8 grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Juker of Washington and Patsy Snethen of Lexington. Margie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, James Lee Schmitz.
