OXFORD - Sp. 4 William Robert Jennett, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bernard Jennett of Rt. 9, Lafayette, died Friday, April 24, 1968, in Vietnam, according to word received by his family Saturday. Cause of his death was not given.
Sp. 4 Jennett had been in Vietnam since last Sept. 16, and was wounded and received the Purple Heart shortly after the first of the year, but had recovered and returned to duty. He was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division.
Born in Lafayette, he attended schools in Romney and Fowler and graduated from high school at Oxford in 1964. He attended Purdue University for two years and was employed by the Norfolk and Western Railroad before entering service Feb. 6, 1967. He took basic training at Ft. Knox, KY, and was sent to Vietnam Sept. 16, 1967.
Sp. 4 Jennett was a member of Oxford Church of Christ and VFW Dan Patch Post 8596 at Oxford.
Surviving are his parents and a brother, Douglas Jennett of Oxford. His body will be returned to Oxford.
