Joseph Wanapi, age 52, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Belcourt, ND passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Visitation began at 6 PM on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 8 PM.
Funeral Mass was held on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 10 AM in the Church with Father Jeff Eppler, S.O.L.T. presiding.
Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
Casket bearers are Martin Henry, Gordon Baker, Emil Lafountaine, Merle St. Claire, Frank Falcon, and Jerry Laverdure. Honorary bearers are Sylvester DuBois, Lee Fandrick, and all family members and friends.
Joseph Richard Wanapi was born on September 23, 1960 in Park River, ND to Joseph Sr. and Mary (Mekwam) Wanapi, He was educated in Belcourt, ND and furthered his education at the University of North Dakota for criminal justice. He was united in marriage to Kerri Davis on November 9, 1981 in Rolla and together they had two daughters, Angelique and Deena. They later divorced.
Joseph worked in carpentry throughout the years and enjoyed building. He will be greatly missed by his family members and many friends.
Joseph is survived by his daughters, Angelique (Debi Bigelow) Wanapi-Davis of Grand Forks and Deena Wanapi-Davis of Grand Forks; two grandchildren, Dominick and Trenton; loving companion, Stefanie Heibel of Fargo, ND; brothers, John Wanapi of Belcourt and Jesse Cree of Dunseith; and a sister, Cheryl Oslin of Belcourt.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements were with Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, ND.
