Ella Lena Powell Caldwell, 71, resident of Columbus, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012, at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road, Columbus on Saturday, December 29, 2012, 11 a.m. with Reverend Barry Danner officiating. Internment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. Mrs. Caldwell was born on January 14, 1941, to the late Robert Evans Powell and Mamie Lee Milam Powell in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. She was a homemaker and worked at Kmart and Phar-mor for over 10 years. She was an active member of First Assembly of God, Phenix City, Alabama and also a member of the Eastern Star and Amaranth Lodge #144, Midland, Georgia. Mrs. Caldwell was a loving mother and grandmother to her family and friend to many others and was actively involved with First Assembly of God, Courts of Praise and dearly loved her church family. She enjoyed planting flowers and was an excellent gardner.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jerry M. Caldwell, sisters, Mary Jo Carpenter and Shirley Menees; and brothers, Joseph Benjamin "JB" Powell, Robert Euel Powell, and Bobby Lee Powell.
