Leo Henry Buessing, 91, Axtell, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, Seneca.

A rosary was prayed Sunday, Jan. 22. A service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Axtell, with the Rev. Albert Hauser and the Rev. James Shaughnessy officiating. The church choir sang.

Pallbearers were Brian Hinkle, Dan Hinkle, Philip Buessing, Gil Korpi, Daniel Buessing and Jonathan Todd. Burial was in the church cemetery.



Leo Buessing was born Sept. 7, 1914, at Kelly, the son of Bernard "Barney" and Elizabeth Sextro Buessing.

He lived most of his life in the Baileyville and Axtell communities. In the 1930s he worked for local farmers and in Washington state and Iowa. He began farming for himself in 1940.

He was on the Nemaha Co-op Creamery of Sabetha board of directors for 20 years. He was a director for the Beattie Co-op Association.

He married Marjorie Porting Aug. 27, 1946.

Survivors include six children, Diane Hinkle, Kansas City, Kan., Barry Buessing, Axtell, Debra Korpi, Leawood, Roger Buessing, Bennett, Colo., Karen Todd, Seneca, and Connie Angell, Dillon, Colo.; a sister, Mary Skoch, Seneca; 15 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol; his parents, Barney and Elizabeth Buessing; five brothers, Francis, Gus, Henry, Andrew and Sylvester; and four sisters, Rose Kramer, Lena Broxterman, Theresa Dowell and Josehine Heiman.
