KAPYATIKA (1951), p 643. Mr Michael Sarantou Trakas, Greenwood SC, was born in Arachova on 9 Mar 1876. He is the son of Sarantos Georgiou Trakas and the former Paraskevi Konst. Gita, both deceased.

After attending the Arachova Grammar School, he left for the United States arriving hera aboard a boat of the Hamburg American Line on 15 Sep 1898. He first worked as a fruit peddler in Boston Mass, to 1903 when he went to Greece and returned in 1906. He was associated with N S Trakas in Spartanburg until 1911 when Mr Trakas again left for Greece where he stayed until 1915. When he returned to the United States in 1915 he first went to Honea Path SC, and Chester SC, until 1917 when he moved to Greenwood, his present residence. While in that city he conducted a fruit and candy store for several years and now running a liquor store with son-in-law Chris Demas.

On 27 Sep 1897, Mr Trakas was married to Eleni Par. Zouras of Arachova and they have the following children: Mrs Panagiota Ath. Stathaki, of Greenwood; Ioanna, Sarantos, Paraskevi now at Vourvoura and Mrs Harikleia Chris Demas of Greenwood. Mr Trakas has 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children. He has also sister Mrs Marigo N Kalamoutsou, of Vourvoura and Mrs Yiannoula John Tselou of Arvanitokerasia. His brother George was brutally executed by the Germans, being burned at stake.

Mr Trakas has served in the Greek Army first in 1905, secondly in 1910 and again in 1912-1913 during the Balkan Wars. He is a Charter adn most active member of the Adelphotis and a former President. Also held various offices in the Board of Directors, and Committees to date, and despite his ill health continues to give his valuable support and guidance.

He had made his home in Greenwood for the past 39 years where he operated Trakas' Candy Kitchen until his retirement several years ago... in addition to this widow, Mrs Helen Zouras Trakas, of the home, he leaves one son, Charles Trakas of Dallas; four daughters, Mrs Pansy Stathakis, of Greenwood; Joanne Trakas of Chicago, Ill; Mrs Harriet Bimes [Dimas], Myrtle Beach; and Mrs Taras Keze Georgepoulos , Arahova, Greece; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Mary Kalamoutsos of Greece.
