Doris M. Rubendall, 86, of Highmore, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at her daughter's home in Pierre.

Funeral services were Monday, January 14, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Highmore. Burial followed at the Highmore Cemetery.

Doris Marie was born May 7, 1926 in Beadle County south of Iroquois to Roy Ezra and Ruth Mae (Whites) Noe. In 1933, Doris and her family moved to Hyde County. She attended rural country school and later graduated from Highmore High School in 1944. She worked in local cafes before and shortly after getting married to Quentin Theodore Rubendall on July 2, 1950 in Clark, South Dakota. After marriage, Doris and Quentin took care of Grandpa Rubendall for 4 ½ years due to a serve stroke he suffered. She then worked as a child care provider for 13 years, administrative secretary for the Hyde County Soil Conservation District for 25 years, and was the Hyde County Food Stamp cashier for 16 ½ years.

Doris was also active in the United Methodist Church; becoming a member in 1955 and serving on the Administrative Council for 61 years, from 1951 to 2012. In 1988, Doris joined the Highmore Senior Center and served on the board for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed her kids, grandkids, family, friends and volunteering. In 2004, she received the Presidential Volunteer Award for all her time of giving to others.

Grateful to have shared in her life were her children: RADM (Ret) Richard (Susi) Rubendall of Tucson, AZ and Sandi (Bill) Shay of Pierre, SD; grandchildren: AmyRose (Gerold) Sanford of Independence, MO, Logan Rubendall and Bailey Rubendall, both of Tucson, AZ, Jerri Shay (Tim Bierbrauer) of Damascus, OR, (M) SGT Robert J. Shay of Pierre (stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia), and Scott (Lina) Shay of Seattle, WA; great grandchildren: Gerald William Sanford of Independence, MO, August Rain Pratt and Stella Moon Bierbrauer of Damascus, OR; brother, Gerald Noe of Bellingham, WA; sisters: Evelyn Thompson and Donna June Olson, both of Pierre, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Proceeding her in death were her parents; husband; and sister, Shirley Pullman.
