Sadly, I know or remember very little.
Anna was my Great Grandmother. She imigrated from Russia with other German decendants of the time. Passing through Ellis Island. Family legend has it she came over on the same ship as her future son-in-law (my grandfather) when he was a small child. Eventually choosing to settle in Western Nebraska to raise her children.
Throughout a good portion of my life she lived a block away from us. My mom and I would help take care of her yard, clean her home, and help her with tasks she could no longer do as she became older. She lived on her own until she was 99 and was unable to care for herself any longer.
She outlived 2 husbands and most of her children (including my grandmother), some grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was our family matriarch and missed by untold generations. Holiday dinners are not the same without her blessing in a mix of German and English.
