Gerald D. Hellbusch, 75, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 21, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Doug Zurek officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Monday at church from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM with a family prayer service at 10:15 AM at church. Memorials are suggested as those of the donor's choice.

Gerald D. Hellbusch was born September 3, 1937, in rural Humphrey, Nebraska, to Elmer and Elsa (Gerken) Hellbusch. He attended grade school at St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Creston High School. On February 27, 1957, Gerald entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged on February 26, 1959. On May 5, 1962, Gerald was united in marriage to Lois Bokelman at Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center, Nebraska. The couple farmed until 1993 when they moved to Columbus. From 1993 – 2010 Gerald worked at Appleton Electric. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, served as secretary and treasurer at St. John's Lutheran Church (12.5 miles North). Gerald passion in life was farming. He had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for the past 10 years.
