Clarence Henry Maas, 98, of West Point, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft with Reverend Ryan Seymour officiating. Burial at the church cemetery. Stokely Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Clarence was born the youngest of 3, February 28, 1914 to Carl and Matilda (Munderloh) Maas on the farm southwest of Bancroft in Logan Township. He was Baptized April 19, 1914 and graduated 8th grade on June 9, 1925 from Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft. He was confirmed April 1, 1928 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft. On June 1, 1943 he was married to Edna Rink at her parent's home near Pender. The couple farmed north of West Point until retiring to West Point in 1985. They resided at St. Joseph's Retirement Community from July 2004.
Clarence took pride in his farming. He raised grain and was a livestock producer. He was an avid pool player until he was 95. He took up woodworking after he retired. Clarence served on the Bancroft Rural Fire Department and Logan Township Board.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Edna's parents Herman and Anna (Schlueter) Rink and his wife, Edna, June 16, 2005. Also, brother John Maas and sister-in-law Ruth Maas; sister Emma Jahnke and brother-in-law William Jahnke; sister -in-law Helen Christensen; brother-in-law-Richard Rink and brother-in -law Lloyd Sage.
Clarence is survived by daughter Marilyn (Dennis) Kimbrough of Geneva, son Larry (Korri) Maas of Bancroft. Grandchildren David (Katie) Kimbrough of Lincoln, Anthony (Jamie) Kimbrough of Lakewood, CO, Tyler (Megan) Maas of Morse Bluff, Timothy Maas of Bancroft and Aaron Maas of Bancroft. Great granddaughters Mollie Kimbrough and Taylyn Maas. Sister and brother-in-law Martha and Clayton Christensen of Storm Lake, IA, sister-in-law Esther Sage of Ogden, UT, sister-in-law Phyllis Rink of Huron, SD, and brother and sister-in-law Harold and Marilyn Rink of Pender.
