Born March 30, 1916 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Herman and Jesse (Maxwell) Fox.
Mr. Fox graduated from Boston University with the Class of 1939 after attaining a B.S. in Business. In 1967 he graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Masters Degree in Education.
He and his wife, Rita M. (Johnson) Fox, were married on March 24, 1956 in Fort Holabird, MD. After marriage they traveled the world together. From 1960 to 1997 they lived in Lutherville, MD, and for the last 10 years, they lived at their current residence.
He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and entered military service with the Massachusetts National Guard. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. at Ft. Ritchie, MD in 1942 and served in Intelligence Combat Operations and with GHQ Far East Command as an instructor at the Intelligence School in Tokyo and advisor on Intelligence Activities to President Syngman Rhee of Korea. He served throughout the world in intelligence activities in Korea, Japan, Boston, Baltimore, New York, San Francisco and Paris. He retired from the Army as a Lt. Colonel after 30 years of service. He was the recipient of many citations during his service, including the Bronze Star.
After retiring from the Army, Richard entered a new career as Professor of Business Management at Essex Community
College, Baltimore, MD, retiring at 25 years in 1986. During this period he was a member of a group of entrepreneurs who incorporated a travel agency in Hunt Valley, MD.
Mr. Fox was a member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg and the American Legion. He volunteered as a mentor to the third grade students of Mowery Elementary School, Quincy and enjoyed sailing, tennis, reading and time spent at his summer home on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH.
He was preceded by his parents and sister, Barbara MacPhail.
