Donna Sharlene Brooks was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 8, 1935. Her parents, Dortha Irene (Greene) and James Brooks moved to Eugene, Oregon when Donna was 12 years old. As the oldest of seven children, teenager Donna was allowed to travel through the south as a singer with a band, including being a back-up singer for Eddie Fisher. This was an exciting life-broadening experience.
After returning to Eugene, Donna married Glen Dale Stockwell. They had a back yard wedding at the Brook's home on March 1, 1959 and then moved to Seattle. During their early years together Donna was quite busy being a mother as well as working many years as a steam presser. Later she owned and operated the Norge Dry Cleaners and Laundromat in Columbia City.
Donna had many favorite things in life. Bingo was a wonderful source of entertainment for her. She was an avid bowler that also served as president, vice-president and secretary of WIBC (Women's International Bowling Congress).Other pleasures came from her doll collection, figurines and spoons from far-away places. Her most significant accomplishments came from being a mother, a grandmother and a friend.
Donna is survived by her husband of almost 54 years, Dale Stockwell, five siblings, and eight children. The siblings are John Brooks, Connie Bockele, James Brooks, Jr., Rebecca Maynard and Sandra Rose. The children are Sherrel (Smith) Lee (husband Dean), Jerry Smith (wife Laurel), Peter Kilger, Paul Kilger, (wife Bobbi) Randall Kilger (wife Lisa), Glenda (Stockwell) Neacsu, Russell Stockwell (wife Susan), and Sean Stockwell (wife Megan). There are also 36 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her infant son, Niles Smith and her younger brother, William Brooks. A memorial service is being held on Sunday 1/27/2013 at the Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home of West Seattle at 2 PM.
