Henry Robertus Jr., was blessed with 93 years before being called home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. Henry was born to Henry and Elizabeth (Grasmich) Robertus on Sept. 13, 1919, in Fort Collins, Colo. The family moved to Montana in 1926 and settled along the Clark's Fork River near Laurel. In 1936, they moved west of Laurel where Henry Jr. would complete his growing up years.

One of Henry's greatest blessings happened on Feb. 16, 1941, when a beautiful young girl by the name of Hannah Walter said "I do" and joined him in marriage. They endured all that life offered them for nearly 72 years. They were members of First Congregational Church in Laurel.

Henry and Hannah raised two boys, Donald and Robert, while working on the farm. Together, they raised sugar beets, hay, corn, grain, milked dairy cows, and fed cattle. Weeds on the farm were not an option and dry spots in fields were hard to find as Henry was pretty handy with his size 1 irrigating shovel. His autos, trucks, and tractors were always spotless and well-maintained. His yard and house were always neat and tidy, trees trimmed, grass green and freshly cut. Hard work brought him great satisfaction and he instilled a hard work ethic in his family.

Henry was a creature of habit, to say the least, as he was always very early to bed and very early to rise. Henry looked forward to the early morning coffee crowd in Laurel and loved being around people. Others always enjoyed Henry's friendliness. His quick wit, stubbornness, and good sense of humor remained with him throughout his later years.

After retiring from his own farming operation in 1984, Henry made many trips to Edgar to help Don and grandson, Mark. He loved his role as "Grandpa" and was eager to lend a hand to Mark as he developed his own farm. Grandpa loved to drive tractors and do field work. He was an ever-present addition to Mark's family and his great-grandchildren adored him. He enjoyed sharing Mountain Dew and chocolates with them, all the while provoking teasing and laughter. Grandpa always offered encouragement and support. Grandpa was more than willing to hop on a bus headed to Fargo, N.D., with Mark and drive an old binder home – all in one day, of course.

In May 2004, Henry suffered a stroke at the age of 84. As a result, Henry was paralyzed on the right side and found life to be quite different. Through his determination, Henry continued to mow his grass, drive his John Deere Gator, and visit the neighbors. After four years, the time came for Henry and Hannah to move to Aspen View in Billings where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Henry was preceded in death by his son, Don Robertus, in 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harold, Alex, John, and Albert Robertus; his sisters, Amelia Podalanchuk and Emma Zeiler.

Henry is survived by his wife, Hannah Robertus of Billings; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Judy Robertus of Dayton, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Robertus of Billings; grandson, Bryan (Margaret) Robertus of Bozeman; grandson, Mark (GayLynn) Robertus of Edgar; great-grandchildren, Steffanie, Nathan, Cara Robertus of Bozeman and Sadie, Seth, Sari and Shay Robertus of Edgar. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Robertus; and sisters, Lila Gordon and Esther (Clem) Lambrecht; the extended Walter families; and numerous nieces and nephews who fondly called him Uncle Hank.

As per Henry's wishes, no funeral services will be held. Condolences may be sent to Hannah Robertus, 3075 Avenue C, #324, Billings MT 59102. The immediate family would like to thank all of his friends and family for their kindness and support over the years. Memorials may be sent to First Congregational Church or charity of choice.
