Percy enlisted in the US Army 22 August 1966, at a recruiting office in Gary, Indiana. He took his basic boot camp training at Fort Polk.
When Percy arrived in Vietnam 25 February 1966, he was assigned to A Company, 502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, USARV. A Company was on a patrol near Tich Phuong (2) and 6 kilometers east southeast of Tien Phuoc, when A Company encountered a undetermined size of hostile forces. Percy died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile automatic weapons after killing several hostile forces.
Survived by his parents, Percy and Julia Mae Beasley Sr of Route #11, Box 316, Benton, Louisiana.
Bronze Star Medal (Merit). Posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his actions and bravery 25 August 1967.
