Born in Steinfeld, Oldenburg, Germany; Maria immigrated to America in 1866 with her parents (Clemens & Anna Maria [Bockhorst] Honkomp) -- landing in Baltimore, MD on 23 September 1866. From there, the family moved directly to Kentucky.

In 1868, Maria married Karl Heinrich (aka "Charles") Stuntebeck in Covington, KY; she was age 26, he was 29. Karl was also born in Steinfeld, Germany; immigrating to America via New Orleans, LA on 6 November 1854 with his parents (Johann Heinrich & Maria Katherina [von der Heide] Stuntebeck).

The family lived in Covington, KY for just over ten years, before moving on to Doyle, KS... ultimately settling in Stearns, County, MN around the village of Freeport.
