Edward J. Whitslar, 96, of West Mayfield, formerly of Big Beaver, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Cambridge Village, Patterson Township.

Born February 3, 1917, in Beaver Falls, a son of the late George and Ann (Schmidt) Whitslar, he retired from the Babcock & Wilcox Co., where he worked in the lab, and was a member of the College Hill United Methodist Church. Edward also enjoyed ballroom dancing at the New Brighton SOI.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma L. (McClurg) Whitslar, in 1995; a son-in-law, Chuck O'Dell; three brothers, Merle, Harry and Richard Whitslar, and a special friend, Ann Reynolds.

Surviving are two daughters, Emma Jean O'Dell and Bob Lambright, Patterson Township, and Mary Jane Sekeres and Rick Noseda, West Mayfield; five grandchildren, Rhonda Miller and husband Raymond, Kenneth O'Dell, Lisa Sekeres, Linda Edel and husband Jon, and Leigh Ann Derringer and husband John; six great-grandchildren, John Michael and Joshua Derringer, Lauryn and Jaden Edel, Eric Miller, and Ashley O'Dell, and a former son-in-law, George J. Sekeres, Chippewa Township.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the LUTTON CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME, 117 Blackhawk Road, www.luttonfuneral home.com, where a service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Larry A. Reitz officiating.

Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Big Beaver.
