Maria Catharina Koch was born in Kolb, Russia. She was the daughter of Heinrich Jacob Koch and Elisabeth Kanzler. She married Johann Georg Henkel 26 Dec 1892 in Kolb. George immigrated with his wife and young daughter to America, arriving first in Quebec on the SS Lake Megantic and then traveling to Tacoma, Washington. Six known children were born to this marriage: Maria (1894-1895), Charlotte, Maria, Friedrich, Mary, and Lydia Henkel.

Note: Surname was changed from Henkel to Hankall.
