Son of William G & Nancy E Penner Becket of Indiana.

He was 5 feet 9 inches tall, had blue eyes and light brown hair that turned gray in later life, and he reported that he was deaf in one ear.

He met Mable "Minnie" V. Knox (11 Nov 1896 Illinois-30 Jul 1962 Los Angeles,CA) in Iowa. She was the daughter of Minnie May Brown & William Harry Knox. They were married on 15 Dec 1915 in Sharpsburg, Taylor, Iowa.

They lived in Taylor, Iowa, and soon, their family grew, with daughters, Erma C, Ruth E, and Dorothy M born there.

The family appears in the 1925 Iowa Census in Marshall, Taylor, Iowa, along with Mable's younger sister Minnie Lola Knox (b abt 1911). William & Mable's daughter Wilma was born in Colorado late that year.

By August of 1929, William & Mable Beckett and their children had moved to Nonpareil, Box Butte, Nebraska, to try farming there. Over the next several years their children Gladys E, Nina, Bill, Helen, Chester and Grace were born. The family again appeared in the US Census in Alliance, Box Butte, Nebraska, in 1940 where William was the proprietor of a filling station (aka gas station).

Around 1941 they moved to Long Beach, Los Angeles, California. William worked at the California Shipbuilding Corporation on Terminal Island in 1942. In 1943, he is listed as a pipefitter in the Long Beach City directory. By 1950, the family was living at 466 E 53rd St in Long Beach, and William was working as a gas station attendant.

His wife, Mable, preceded him in death in 1962.
