Eugene W. Mauch (Gene) was born June 10, 1926, in Milwaukee Wisconsin and raised in the town of Mayville. He and his high school sweetheart, Sherlee Hoepner Mauch, celebrated 64 years of marriage this past August. After high school graduation in 1944, Gene began a tour of duty in the Naval Air Force; he then received a B.S. in Naval Science at Miami University of Ohio and his M.D. at Marquette University in Wisconsin after which he completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Minnesota. Gene served a second tour of duty in the South Pacific as an officer in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.

Gene practiced OB/GYN in the greater Detroit area for 23 years, bringing more than five thousand babies into the world. From 1982-1989, he was an Associate Professor in the School of Human Medicine at Michigan State University where he pioneered in the then-new technique of Amniocentesis. He retired to Harbor Springs, Michigan, where he continued to follow his passions for tennis, golf, the study of food and wine, and travel. Gene was known for his warm, welcoming personality, his dedication to his patients, his high standards of integrity and excellence, and his love for and devotion to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sherlee, their children: Debra Dean, Eugene Charles "Chuck" (Charlene) Mauch, Amy (Greg) Ferguson; grandchildren: Jessica (Gregg) Sanders, Marissa (Brian) Simard, Stephen Dean, Christopher Mauch, Scott Mauch, Emily Ferguson, Ryan Ferguson; great-grandchildren Noah and Mia Sanders. Gene was preceded in death by his son David Mauch in 1995.

Private services for the Mauch Family will be held to honor Gene in the Harbor Springs area. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, American Cancer Society, or the Walter Zeit Fellowship of The Medical College of Wisconsin.
