"Opposite the Glandorf Depot, George Henry Merschman, in 1892, founded an elevator and used the railroad for shipping. His father, Henry Mershman, had worked on the canal, been a partner with a Mr. Meyers in a sawmill, owned a grist mill, a general store, and had been involved in the earlier stock yards and pork packing plant on the site of the Glandorf Depot. After Mershman's death, the mill was operated by his heirs, the Kohls family."Henry Mersmann

The father of Bernard Mersman died in Germany, and a year or so after Bernard came to this country, his mother also came here and made her home with one of her daughters, Mrs. Meyers, in Putnam county, until her death, Jan. 2, 1877, at the advanced age of ninety-six.
