Donald Walter Meyer, 85, of Wilmington, NC (Formerly Newell), was born on March 5, 1931 and passed away at his residence on February 9, 2017.
Donald was a native of Newell, South Dakota and a graduate of Newell High School and of Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota with a BS degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
For more than over twenty-six years, Donald served his country in the United States Air Force.
Donald retired in January 1978 with a Meritorious Service Medal signed by the Secretary of the Air Force.
Throughout his life, Donald was always a firm believer and active Lutheran. He held positions in the church as Usher, Head Usher, Financial Secretary, and Deacon. He was a present member of Messiah Lutheran Church and former member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, both in Wilmington.
Donald enjoyed riding motorcycles with his sons and his friends and tinkering with automobiles. He usually had an extra vehicle parked in the driveway for that purpose.
Surviving are his wife of over sixty-two years, his son, a granddaughter, and a grandson.
Donald was preceded in death by his oldest son, Donald Jr., his father and mother, three sisters and his brother.
Graveside services will be held 10am Wednesday, May 24th, 2017 at the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 3302 South College Road, Wilmington, NC, 28412, or St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 612 South College Road, Wilmington, NC, 28412.
