Doris Jean Herberg Krause

Doris Jean Krause, age 80, of Crookston, MN, died peacefully at her home late Monday evening, February 25, 2013. Members of her loving family had been her faithful caregivers for several months during her final illness. Doris was born at Crookston on September 27, 1932, and was the daughter of Harry and Anna (Kaiser) Herberg. She was raised on the family's farm and in 1950 graduated from high school at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. Doris was united in marriage to Harold Melvin Abrahamson on October 20, 1950 in Crookston. The couple made their home in Crookston and raised 4 children: Rodney, Wayne, David, and Lisa. Sadly, Harold passed away on June 6, 1967. Doris' first employment was with the Cox Bakery in Crookston. She later worked for several years in the lab at the American Crystal Sugar Company during the campaign season, and it was during this time that she married Ervin Krause. Doris was employed in the Environmental Services Department of RiverView Hospital until her retirement in 1997. Sadness again came to Doris' life with the death of her son, David, who died in a traffic accident on October 22, 2000.

Doris was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and the auxiliaries of the VFW and American Legion. Every year she took part in the Veterans Day remembrances, and marched with the color guards of the auxiliaries in several parades. She volunteered her time to the Home Delivered Meals program and liked to assist the residents at the Villa St. Vincent in playing bingo. Doris loved life; she had an adventurous nature, and was considered by her kids to be very independent, determined; even "spunky." She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, playing cards and bingo with family and friends, and had been an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan for a long time. Doris was a very loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma and played a big role in her family's lives. She will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed.

Loving family members include her 3 children: Rodney Abrahamson and his wife, Kristi, Wayne Abrahamson and his wife, Sharon, and Lisa Abrahamson (Craig Severson), all of Crookston, MN; 7 grandchildren: Tammie, Justin, Kristal, Jason, Sidjornie, Gray, and Tanner; and 5 great-grandchildren: Nicolas, Paige, Kyle, Brea, and Jayla. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Lloyd Herberg of Babbitt, MN and Lindy Herberg of Crookston; 2 brothers-in-law, Harold Bangen of Great Falls, MT and Boyd Larson of Chaska, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her husband, Harold, and son, David, Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Anna; brothers: Roger, Kenneth, Raymond, Walter, Robert, and infant brothers, Donald, Milo, Gerald, and Emil; and 2 sisters, Harriet Bangen and LaVonne Larson. May God bless the memory of Doris Jean Krause.

The funeral service for Doris Krause will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with The Rev. Jo Gast, officiating. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7:00pm, with a 5:00 pm prayer service, and also for one hour prior to her funeral service. Interment will be in the spring at the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
