She was the last surviving member of her family. She was born on Saturday, January 11, 1930, in Fairfield, Virginia, to parents Ida Belle Lilly and Herman Kirkpatrick Fix.
She graduated from Fairfield High School, in 1948, and was Valedictorian of her class. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and faithfully served as a member of Mountain Top Christian Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and serving as treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary, Margie, and Gertrude Fix, Agnes Coffey, Cami Day, Myrtle Fox, Grace Bayne; and brothers, William Sours, Pete Fix and Elmer Fix.
On January 28, 1950, she married Ralph E. Hewitt, who preceded her in death on November 15, 2001. Together they lovingly raised their four children, Carolyn M. Irvan, who preceded them in death, on March 25, 1994.
Her survivors include one son, Jeffery Hewitt and his wife, Sherri; two daughters, Kathy Freed and her husband, Richard, and Jennifer Kiser and her fiance, Bill Harlow; grandchildren, Maria Irvan, who made her home with the deceased, Justin Freed, Kelsey Kiser, Kyle Freed, Daniel Kiser, Carmen Hewitt, and Kyle Camann; and a great grandchild, Ryleigh Brown.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Mountain Top Christian Church, with Reverend Richard Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Landon Coffey Jr., Justin Freed, Kyle Freed, Daniel Kiser, Billy Coffey, and Mike Coffey.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mountain Top Christian Church.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 West Main Street.
