LEIS, Marie K. Marie Kathryn Leis, 91, of Tavistock passed away in the Maples Home for Seniors, Tavistock on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. She was born in South Easthope Township, Perth County on November 16, 1921 a daughter of the late John and Clara (Kipfer) Zehr. Marie was a faithful member of Tavistock Mennonite Church where she had served on the WMSC Executive, the MYF Sponsors, as a Jr. Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School Teacher for many years. She had helped her husband, Mahlon, and the family in the operation of Tavistock Dairy. Along with Mahlon and other friends she was a co-founder of Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp. She had been a health care worker at the Bonnie Brae Nursing Home in Tavistock. Marie loved her sewing machine and she loved fabric. She enjoyed making quilts for her family, crocheting afghans and working in her flowerbeds and for many years working side by side with her sister, LaVone. Marie married Mahlon Arthur Leis on September 15, 1943. He predeceased her on February 15, 2013. She was the mother of Gerald "Jerry" Leis (deceased June 28, 1990), Robert "Bob" Leis (deceased August 22, 1997), Gloria and husband Bill Wettlaufer, Elaine and husband Jim Weicker, all of Tavistock; the Canadian mother to Wilmer and Janet Martin of Waterloo; grandmother of Scott and Erika Wettlaufer, Angela Wettlaufer Jeff and Miranda Weicker, Jamie and Jenn Weicker, Julia and Michael Hawkins, Jennifer Filmore, Kelly and Joel Harbin; Canadian grandmother to Janelle Martin, Alan and Christiane Martin; great-grandmother to Emily and Joshua Wettlaufer, Morgan and Blake Weicker, Benjamin and Addison Weicker, Mia and Stella Hawkins, Chloee Filmore, Tye and Chase Wagner, Matthew and Miriam Martin; sisters, LaVone Gascho, Lorraine Boldt, Shirley and husband Carl Zehr, Iva Smith; brothers, Edward and wife Jean Zehr, Ken and wife Karen Zehr; sister-in-law, Carol Satchell and "Leis" sisters-in-law, Ruth Leis and Geraldine Leis. Besides her husband, sons and parents, she was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ezra E. and Elizabeth Leis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna Mae and Oscar Leis, Leola and Omar Wagler; brothers and sister-in-law, Harold Zehr, Donald and Donna Zehr, Peter Zehr (in infancy); brothers-in-law, John Gascho, Victor Boldt, Ross Smith; "Leis" brothers-in-law, Herbert Leis and Harold Leis and nieces, Darlene Roth and Brenda Brenner. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Tavistock Mennonite Church on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Patricia Wagler will officiate. Spring interment in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th Line.
