Mr. Johannes Groeneweg died at His home northwest of Rock Valley Thursdav, Dec. 3, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Groeneweg had been ill for about two years. Recently he suffered a stroke which confined him to bed. Thursday he suffered another stroke, after which he passed away.
Mr. Groeneweg was born in Barendrecht South Holland, in the Netherlands in 1877. He lived in the Netherlands with his parents until he was twenty four years old when he came to America with them. He spent the remainder of his life in the vicinity of Rock Valley.
He was married to Miss Betty Brower of Orange City in 1901. Mr. Groeneweg was a farmer for many years. He was a member of the old Reformed church in Rock Valley.
Mr. Groeneweg is survived by Mrs. Groeneweg and six sons, who are John, Peter, Paul, Joe and Richard of Rock Valley, and Walter of Hull, and two daughters who are Mrs. Ray Boer of Ireton and Mrs. Henry Aalberts of Perkins.
He is also survived by three brothers who are Joe of Hudson, Walter of Rock Rapids and Bastian of Rock Valley and two sisters, Mrs. Johannes Den Boer and Mrs. Tim Kooima of Rock Valley.
Two sisters Mrs. Jake Van Kekerix and Mrs. Peter Noteboom preceed him in death.
Funeral services were held in the old Reformed church in Rock Valley Monday afternoon, Dec. 7. Rev. John Vander Hoof pastor of the church was in charge. Burial was made in the Valley View cemetery.
