Delores Sylvia Duerkop died Wednesday, March 16, as a result of lung cancer.

Delores was born April 14, 1943 in Eau Claire, Wis., to Norman and Sylvia (Berg) Amundson. She grew up on the family farm in Bruce Valley, south of Strum. She graduated from Whitehall High School in 1961, and then attended the Eau Claire Vocational School. She married Walter L. Duerkop on May 22, 1965, in Strum. They lived their entire married life in Eau Claire.

Delores was employed at Eau Claire Electric Cooperative from 1962 until 1970, when she became a full-time mother. In 1983 she joined the operations department of Eau Claire Electric Cooperative, now known as Eau Claire Energy Cooperative, until ill health no longer permitted her to work in February 2005. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its various committees and Ruth Circle Group.

She is survived by her husband, Walter (Wally) of 40 years; son Larry (Wendy) and granddaughter Allison Sylvia of Fall Creek; son, Tony of Eau Claire; one sister, Karen Briggs of Wausau; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Doug and Donna Kahrau of St. Paul and Andy and Jean Workman of Onalaska; uncles and aunts, Byron and Phyllis Berg of Osseo, Edith Amundson of Osseo and Myrtle Amundson of Strum; nieces and nephews; friends and co-workers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Sylvia Amundson; and father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Amy Duerkop.

A special thank you is extended to Dr. Dean Delmastro and staff at the Cancer Center and staff at Cardiac and Oncology Units on Sacred Heart’s 5th floor.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, March 21, 2004, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mary Jorgensen officiating. Interment will follow the service at Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday evening at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home and one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
