John Wesley Anglin, 89, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at 12:40 PM in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, Indiana.

He was born on February 6, 1924, in Leesburg, Indiana to Frederick Joseph and Nellie Mae (Roberts) Anglin.

He attended and graduated in 1942 from Leesburg High School. Where he played basketball all four years. Then attended Manchester College in 1948 before entering Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis, Indiana where he graduated as a funeral director and embalmer in 1950.

Having entered the United States Army Air Corps on October 9, 1945 in Lowry Field, Colorado. Served 3 years in Germany during World War II and was a flight engineer/crew chief for 6 years on B-17 and B-24 Bombers. Sgt. John W. Anglin was honorably discharged after his second tour of duty on April 28, 1948, at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.

After service, he moved to South Bend, Indiana in the early 1950s. And on March 8, 1952 in South Bend, he and Norma J. Murphy were joined in holy matrimony. John passed away on their 61st Wedding Anniversary.

John was a funeral director and embalmer for Welsheimer and Hickey Funeral Homes in South Bend. In 1952 he entered the claims side of the insurance business. He began his 36 year insurance career in claims service as a claims adjuster for Western Adjustment and Aetna Insurance. Upon his retirement, he had been a claims manager for 20 years with Westfield Insurance Companies in South Bend. John owned a bulk milk route after retirement and also was a claims representative for the Farmers Mutual Relief Association before their full retirement in 1986.

He and his wife, Norma, were instrumental in organizing Cardinal Center for services to the handicapped. John was a life member of Kosciusko Masonic Lodge #148 F. & A.M. (Milford, Indiana) since 1949; a member of the Scottish Rite of South Bend since 1952; a member, past board member, trustee, and an usher for many years at Leesburg United Methodist Church; president of the South Bend Insurance Adjusters Association in 1961; member of the American Legion Post #49 (Warsaw); blood donor for the American Red Cross and helped Norma establish and transport Amish volunteers and donors for 5 years to and from bloodmobiles.

Survivors include 3 daughters and a son-in-law: Deborah Anglin and Denise Bronsing of Warsaw and Diane and Bruce Gescheidle of Holiday, Florida; 5 grandchildren and spouses: Bryan Bronsing, Warsaw; Lori and Roman Martinez of Bedford, Indiana; Beth and Brack Thomas of Wilmington, Delaware; Lisa Gescheidle of Holiday, Florida and Sarah and John Nice of Land O lakes, Florida; 4 great-granddaughters: Alexys, Madelyn, Lexus, and Isabella; and 4 great-grandsons: Jordan, Elias, Christopher, and Max.

John was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Marshall Wayne Anglin and Herman "Wimpy" Frederick Anglin.

Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing and supporting each other Monday, March 11th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.

A service celebrating the life of John Wesley Anglin will take place Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home with Pastor Don Greulich officiating. Burial will follow in Leesburg Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Warsaw's American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.

The family has asked the memorial gifts in John's name be given to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, PO Box 1196, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1196, or Miller's Merry Manor, 1634 S. County Farm Road, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
