Hoehne, Emma Lena (21 December 1873 - 9 November 1953)


Funeral services for Mrs. C. c. Hoehne, 79, were held Thursday afternoon, November 12, from the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Charles Koch officiated and graveside services were conducted by members of the local Order of Eastern Star. Pallbearers were grandsons.


During the service the choir sang, "Sometime we will Understand" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Adolph Wessel.


Mrs. Hoehne, formerly Emma Lena Runkel, the only child of George and Louise Runkel, was born December 21, 1873, in Reeseville, and was married to Carl C. Hoehne June 7, 1903, in that city. She received her education in Reeseville and Watertown, after which she taught school in and around Reeseville for 10 years.


Mr. and Mrs. Hoehne celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last June. Since their marriage they had lived in Greenwood, where Mr. Hoehne has operated the Hoehne Hardware store for 51 years. Mrs. Hoehne was a member and past president of the Reformed Ladies Aid Society, and an organizer of the Sunday school, a past worthy matron and member of the Local Order of the Eastern Star.


She died November 9 at 8:15 p.m. at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Braatz, after being in failing health for several years.


She is survived by her husband, two sons, George and Julius, and two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Ilma) Braatz, all of Greenwood, and Mrs. Oscar (Nelda) Dyre of Moorhead, Minn.; and nine grandchildren.
