ELMWOOD — Dennis C. Freiberg, age 70, of Elmwood, died on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at his home in Elmwood.

Dennis was born Jan. 22, 1935, to Arnold and Lillian (Aamodt) Freiberg in Spring Lake township, Pierce County. He was baptized April 7, 1935, at Gilman Lutheran Church and confirmed May 9, 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church-Hatchville. Dennis graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1954 and joined the U.S. Army on Oct. 14, 1954. He served three years active with a reserve obligation until Oct. 13, 1962. Dennis married Shirley Jean Ferber on July 11, 1958, and had six daughters together. After residing in Minnesota for a short time, they moved back to the Spring Lake area, and at retirement moved into Elmwood. He was divorced in 1992.

Dennis was employed at Hart Ski Manufacturing for 23 years until the company folded. He hauled milk for Jerry Fuhrman for several years and did a lot of carpentry work on the side.

Dennis is survived by six daughters, Pamela (Jim) Marson and Michelle (Ray) Roemhild, both of Elmwood, Denise (Ron) Holcomb of Pearland, Texas, Linda (Pete) Hoyt of Plum City, Dawn (Darcy) Barstad of Glendale, Calif., and Cheryl (Eugene) Roemhild of Knapp; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Marie) of Minong and Robert (Barb) of Spring Valley; three sisters, Deloris (Herb) Afdahl of Menomonie, Marilyn (Chuck) Gjovic of East Bethel, Minn., and Joan (Gene) Styer of Sturgeon Bay; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; and two very good friends, Dave and Val Nelson of Elmwood.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother LeRoy; and a grandson, Derrick Marson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at St. John's Lutheran Church-Hatchville, rural Spring Valley, with Rev. Shawn Kauffeld officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 of Elmwood.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
